Often funny, sometimes deeply moving

This was a completely new "angle" of the ongoing jousting between Camillo and Peppone - in Soviet Russia. As ever, Don Camillo outwits not only Peppone, but also the Communist hosts as he meets and ministers to a number of people caught up in the chaos at the end of the second world war. Often funny, sometimes deeply moving.

As always, a delightful read. Don Camillo actually feels and acts as most of us would like to, but he recognizes that there is a gentle restraint, to which he has the strength to listen.A book to dip into when the mood takes you - never dull and always leaves you with a smile.A wonderful series.

Extended short Novel of Don Camillo going to Russia - as good as the short story collections - some of which lead from one to th

I first read these stories 50 years ago and collected various editions since but all compared to these new translations, seem somewhat abridged and lack the detailed insights which have meant so much to the original readers. The influence of the author on Italian political and social history was far greater than explained in the prefaces to previous translations.My only advice is to perhaps save Comrade Don Camillo till after having read one or two of the short story collections.I understand more collections of the stories are to follow.Definitely looking forward to these!
