Avventura course book for (very) old BBC course on TV

I had this book when the course was first broadcast, but had lost it, and I wanted to remind myself of the material before starting a second or third year italian course at college. It came in excellent condition and promptly, so I am very satisfied. It's so much more interesting than the first year courses they produce for colleges these days, as it's based on an entertaining story, where you can learn things in context.

Excellent beginner's book with amusing passages
By Hard to Please
Though this book is from a 70's bbc course it is still useful. It works without the accompanying record and teaches lots of useful phrases and vocab using short entertaining passages written like play texts followed by explanations and some exercises. I have used it alongside a couple of grammar books (Talk Italian Grammar and Living Italian). Well worth finding a 2nd hand copy.

Learn Italian 70s style

This book has to be the best way to learn Italian if you like quirky and different. It's so engaging. The hapless fantasist Bertoldo and his living dreams of Ancient Rome, and the lovely Flavia, are a wonderful background to learning Italian grammar and vocabulary. You will learn some fabulous phrases too, ones you wion't forget. I've never had so much fun with a language or learnt so enjoyably and eagerly. It's a gem and a joy if you're un po' pazza like me.. There are some more down to earth story lines too. See if you can pick up the records that go with the book from second hand sellers (2 LPs)
