5Whets the curiosity
By SC
Someone bought this book for my six-year-old son and he is completely enchanted by it, as am I. First, the story itself can't help but unleash a child's curiosity. My son is full of questions about every aspect of it whenever we read it. Here is a boy with no name, and a friend willing to trade his own name for a dream, which leads them to seek the help of a wise man who, it turns out, can confer names and dreams, but not as they expected. Then there are the wonderful illustrations, so full of detail, in which the artist perfectly captures the atmosphere and Eastern setting of the tale, along with the boys' sense of awe and wonder. The story subtly poses profound questions of who we are and what we should be striving for but with the lightest touch. A really rewarding read because there is so much to look at and discuss.

5Both boys have wonderful dreams for the rest of their lives after visiting ...
By T.C.
The Boy Without A Name.Pages to dream in. This story has more than a touch of the enchantment associated with The Thousand and One Nights.Naturally the boy without a name wishes to have a name. He goes to see his friend Anwar and asks him if he has a name he could give him.I have only one name his friend replies. What would I do for a name if I gave my name to you? And, what could you give me in return, for you have nothing?I have an unwanted dream, offers the boy without a name.Only the wise man can sort this out.He doesn't live far away so they set off to visit him. Though they have never seen the wise man before, he knows who they are and is expecting them.Inside his house are boxes. One box has names in it. The second box has unwanted dreams and the third wanted dreams.A bed time story par excellence: both boys have wonderful dreams for the rest of their lives after visiting the wise man.The drawings are full of colour. Especially magical are the illustrations around the magic boxes.

5A boys joyful search for himself
By R.S.
A boys joyful search for himself. Apart from being a delightful tale drawn from Shah's vast catalogue of traditional stories, it is also a gentle introduction for maturing minds to important questions, such as ''who am and what do I want''?The who being, what is the nature of my identity? The want being, what do I want from life? It could be seen as under the radar existential philosophy for kids. The illustrations used to animate the tale impregnate these notions with a aesthetic fascination, that other publications find challenging to duplicate.
